AGC will not be prosecuting David Lum for dealings with Iswaran

Two of the charges on which Iswaran was convicted were for dealings with the boss of construction company Lum Chang

THE Attorney-General’s Chambers said on Friday (Oct 4) that it will not be tendering charges against businessman David Lum Kok Seng, who was involved in dealings with former minister S Iswaran.

Lum was one of two businessmen involved in the case against Iswaran. The other, property tycoon and billionaire Ong Beng Seng, was charged in court on Friday for abetting the obstruction of justice and offences under Section 165 of the Penal Code.

Lum is the managing director of mainboard-listed construction company Lum Chang.

His dealings with Iswaran, for which the ex-minister was convicted and sentenced under Section 165, include gifting Iswaran 14 bottles of whisky and wine, and a Brompton bicycle.

Section 165 prohibits public servants from accepting valuable items for free or inadequate payment from someone connected to business transactions or proceedings they handle.

For his dealings with Lum and Ong, Iswaran was sentenced to 12 months’ jail on Thursday.
