This victory brings India’s medal tally to six, with five bronze and one silver. The silver medal was clinched by Neeraj Chopra in the javelin throw event on Thursday.
Sehrawat’s triumph continues the legacy of Indian wrestlers bringing home medals from the Olympic Games since the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where Sushil Kumar had also won a bronze medal.
In the semifinal bout on Thursday, Sehrawat had faced a defeat against the top-seeded Japanese wrestler Rei Higuchi, which led him to the bronze-medal match against Darian Cruz.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his congratulations following Aman’s achievement of securing India’s sixth medal at the Olympic Games. PM expressed his delight and pride in the athlete’s accomplishment.
“More pride thanks to our wrestlers! Congratulations to Aman Sehrawat for winning the Bronze Medal in the Men’s Freestyle 57 kg at the Paris Olympics. His dedication and perseverance are clearly evident. The entire nation celebrates this remarkable feat,” Modi posted on X.
