Amazon Web Services opens new Asia-Pacific headquarters in Singapore, hiring for more than 100 roles

AMAZON opened a new Asia-Pacific headquarters for its cloud computing unit Amazon Web Services (AWS) in Singapore on Wednesday (Feb 12), with plans to hire more than 100 local employees for cloud and corporate roles.

The tech giant has been in Singapore for 15 years, with more than 2,500 employees here.

At the opening, Senior Minister of State for Digital Development and Information Janil Puthucheary noted that AWS will be growing its teams in areas such as software engineering, machine learning, artificial intelligence, data science and engineering.

“These types of roles will enable our workers, the people of Singapore, to seek out employment opportunities and be at the forefront of technological advancement,” said Dr Janil.

He encouraged AWS to continue working closely with local educational institutions and training providers to equip Singaporeans with the skills needed for the future.

The new AWS Asia Pacific Hub is the anchor tenant at IOI Central Boulevard’s East Tower, spanning more than 360,000 square feet across eight floors.

It can accommodate up to 3,000 employees and will serve as a collaborative space for more than 100 local and regional teams.

“AWS’ new regional office in Singapore represents our deepening commitment to Singapore, and serves as a strategic hub for digital transformation across Asean,” said Jeff Johnson, AWS managing director for Asean.

The office is part of Amazon’s earlier-announced commitment to invest S$12 billion into Singapore’s cloud infrastructure from 2024 to 2028.

That investment, in addition to earlier ones, is expected to contribute S$23.7 billion to Singapore’s gross domestic product by 2028 and support 12,300 full-time equivalent jobs in local businesses each year.

Amazon’s first corporate office in Singapore, opened in 2021, occupies more than 100,000 square feet in Marina Bay, and accommodates up to 700 employees.

The new office will hold AWS’ first flagship executive briefing centre in Asia, where AWS experts engage enterprise customers and partners. By the third quarter of 2025, it will also house a new AWS Asia-Pacific innovation hub – the first in the region – where customers can experience the company’s offerings.
