The Rhodes Trust, Oxford has opened the online registration window for application to the Rhodes Scholarship for India 2024.
Interested candidates who meet the eligibility criteria can apply for a fully funded full-time postgraduate award at the University of Oxford by submitting the required documents and following the application procedures for the Rhodes Scholarship for India 2024.

Eligibility criteria for Rhodes Scholarship India 2024

To be eligible for the Rhodes Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Nationality/Citizenship: You must be an Indian citizen, holding an Indian passport or equivalent proof of citizenship. PIO or OCI cardholders do not qualify. Refugees or asylum seekers in India are also eligible to apply.
Education/Residency: You must have completed formal education at an institution in India for at least 4 of the past 10 years. Additionally, you should have:

  • Passed a school leaving exam (10th or 12th standard or equivalent) in India, OR
  • Be in the final year of, or have completed, an undergraduate degree at an Indian university.
  • Be between 18-23 years old on 1st October 2024 (born after 1 October 2000 and before 2 October 2006).
  • If you completed your first undergraduate degree later than usual, be under 27 years old on 1st October 2024 (born after 1 October 1997), and have completed the academic requirements for your first undergraduate degree on or after 1 October 2023.

Academic requirements for Rhodes Scholarship India 2024

To qualify academically, you must have completed an undergraduate degree by July 2025, with an academic record that meets or exceeds the entry requirements of your chosen course at the University of Oxford. A First Class Honours Degree will significantly enhance your chances of successful admission.
For further clarification on academic requirements, contact the National Secretary. Note that only one of the five available Scholarships may be awarded to candidates who completed their undergraduate studies outside India or are inter-jurisdictional.

How to apply for Rhodes Scholarship India 2024

To apply for the Rhodes Scholarship, complete and submit the online application form by 23:59 IST on 1 August 2024. There is no application fee, and submissions must be made online. Apply for the Rhodes Scholarship before applying to your chosen course at the University of Oxford. Successful candidates must then apply to Oxford through its graduate application form with support from Rhodes House. If your initial application is unsuccessful, you may reapply once more, provided you still meet the eligibility criteria.

Important documents required to apply for Rhodes Scholarship India 2024

You must upload copies of the following documents, translated into English if necessary. Original documents may be requested later. Birth certificate or photo page of a valid passport to confirm age.
Photo page of a valid passport or equivalent proof of citizenship (such as a Voter ID) to confirm nationality. The bulleting has also notified that PIO or OCI cardholders do not qualify as Indian citizens for this purpose.
Additionally, the Rhodes application form requires:

  • Your personal details and contact information.
  • Evidence of meeting the eligibility criteria.
  • Education history, including university transcripts.
  • The course(s) you wish to study at the University of Oxford.
  • An Academic Statement.
  • A Personal Statement.
  • Four to five referees.
