KOCHI: An Air India Express cabin crew member was arrested at Kannur airport in Kerala for smuggling nearly one kilogram of gold by concealing it into her rectum. On a specipic input, DRI officers intercepted Surabhi Khatun (26), a Kolkata native, when she arrived on a flight from Muscat on Tuesday. A search resulted in the recovery of 960g of gold in compound form, concealed in her rectum.
Khatun was later produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
According to sources, investigation suggested she had been involved in gold smuggling on several occasions in the past. Involvement of some Kerala-based individuals in the racket was also under investigation, sources said.
