NEW DELHI: Delhi is dealing with a sweltering Monday as IMD predicts that the heatwave conditions will continue throughout the day with temperature expected to reach 45°C.
As residents of the capital city awoke, they were greeted by a warm morning, with the minimum temperature recorded at 29.2 degrees Celsius, which is three degrees above the average for this time of year.
According to the IMD, the relative humidity at 8:30 am was measured at 43 per cent. The weather agency has also forecasted partly cloudy skies throughout the day, accompanied by heatwave to severe heatwave conditions and strong surface winds.
The IMD has stated that “the maximum temperature is expected to settle at 45 degrees Celsius,” indicating that the city will face an uncomfortably hot day, with temperatures soaring well above normal levels.
A ‘red’ alert for Sunday and an ‘orange’ alert for Delhi from May 20 to 22 was issued by IMD on Saturday.
IMD declares a heatwave when maximum temperature reaches or surpasses 45°C. Additionally, a day is considered a heatwave day when the maximum temperature is at least 40°C and exceeds the normal temperature by 4.5 degrees or more.
