Manipur colleges to remain closed on September 11, 12, notice here – Times of India


The Department of Higher and Technical Education, Manipur, has announced a two-day holiday for all government and private colleges on September 11 and 12, 2024. This decision was made amid ongoing protests, aiming to restore peace following clashes in which over 40 students were injured while marching towards Raj Bhawan in Imphal.
The official notice reads, ‘In continuation of the Government order of even no.dated 8th September, 2024. It is hereby ordered that all the government colleges/aided colleges, private colleges under the Higher & Technical Education Department, Government of Manipur shall continue to remain closed on 11.09.2024 and 12.09.2024. This is issued with the approval of the competent authority.’

Earlier, the Manipur government issued an order suspending internet services due to heightened student protests.
On Tuesday, a large number of students took to the streets in Imphal, protesting against the recent escalation of violence in the state and demanding the removal of the DGP and security adviser. The students condemned the indiscriminate use of drone bombs and missile strikes by extremist outfits.
The demonstration followed a day after Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, along with 18 MLAs, convened a meeting with Governor L. Acharya amidst the recent outbreak of violence.
