MUMBAI: The success rate of Mumbai University‘s third-year BCom students in their semester V exams is almost similar to last year, with nearly 60% of the students failing. third-year BCom exams are taken by close to 60,000 students from the university’s affiliated colleges, the highest for any university programme. The success rate in the exams for traditional courses, which was around 60-70% before the pandemic, has not recovered since.
The university, however, managed to reduce the number of results kept in reserve for various reasons, including those kept on reserve for not clearing the lower exams and those held for provisional admissions. Of the total 55,620 students who took the exam, 23,134 passed.
Principals have been complaining about the poor results in traditional courses for some time, as other self-financed courses are recording a success rate of over 70%. Many have attributed this to poor attendance in classrooms, reliance on online content, and the rise in colleges seeking autonomy. Autonomous colleges conduct their own exams and, therefore, are not part of the MU results statistics.
