The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) shared the exam city allotment details with candidates on Wednesday night. Although the board initially stated that the information would be shared via email, many aspirants reported receiving the details through SMS. The NBEMS has only provided the names of the cities where the exam centres are located, with detailed addresses to be mentioned on the admit cards. NEET PG 2024 is scheduled for August 11 in two shifts.
Candidates have taken to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express their grievances. NEET PG aspirant and X user Anandita posted, “Last time got a centre 10 kms away and now they have allotted a centre 1000 km away which wasn’t even in my 4 options in UP, which is such a remote area, even though I filled it on the first day. What kind of arrangement is this? Can someone please take any action?”
Another aspirant, Sajit Khan, pleaded for justice, specifically mentioning the situation in Thrissur, Kerala, where candidates are required to travel long distances.
The allocation issue has not gone unnoticed by public figures. Shashi Tharoor, Congress MP from Kerala, has actively supported the students’ demands. Tharoor tweeted, “My letter to Health Minister J.P. Nadda on a critical issue affecting NEET PG aspirants from Kerala. The meeting referred to has taken place this afternoon, and the Minister has promised sympathetic action to resolve the problem.”
Tharoor’s involvement has been praised by many, including a user named Panchayat Sahayak Vikas, who acknowledged his efforts, saying, “At least one great leader has the spine and guts to say that injustice is being done to NEET PG aspirants.”
Other parliamentarians have also voiced their support. Physician Dr. Ishwar Singh Chouhan took to X and wrote, “Many Members of Parliament wrote letters and met with the honourable Health Minister J.P. Nadda ji. Hopefully, NBEMS will take action about centre reallocation.”
Candidates have highlighted the practical difficulties posed by the distant exam centres. Dr. CK Prabhakaran, tweeted saying, “Even in the PG NEET Exam, centres have not been provided in Tamil Nadu. Students are forced to travel to other states, creating extreme hardship.”
Another user, Raghu Jat, questioned the feasibility, asking, “Why should doctors travel to other states to give NEET PG 2024? Who’ll pay for Tatkal tickets and hotels? Flight tickets are so high & heavy rain and floods across the country.”
The NBEMS’ handling of the exam has been widely criticised for its lack of transparency and poor communication. Dr. Raj expressed his disappointment, stating, “First, you guys respect the doctors in the country. NEET PG aspirants are very disappointed by NBEMS’s mismanagement! There’s no proper information regarding the two shifts of the exam!”
As the calls for centre relocation grow louder, it remains to be seen how the NBEMS will respond to these concerns. The demand for exams to be conducted in a single shift within home states reflects the students’ desire for a fair and manageable testing environment. For now, the NEET PG 2024 aspirants await further updates, hoping their voices will be heard.
