NBEMS Announces New Leave Rules for PG Trainees in NEET PG 2024

NEET PG 2024: The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has issued an advisory on the comprehensive leave rules for trainees enrolled in its Postgraduate (PG) medical programmes. The new guidelines, announced on November 22, 2024, aim to standardise leave entitlements and ensure that trainees complete their required training within the specified timeframes.
Leave Entitlement and Maternity/Paternity Leave
Trainees are entitled to a maximum of 30 days of leave per year during their training period. This leave includes weekly or duty-off days, which will be counted as part of the 30-day leave. For female trainees, maternity leave is available in accordance with state or central government policies, with paternity leave of up to two weeks offered to male trainees. However, any leave beyond the eligible 30 days will result in an extension of the training period, and it could potentially affect eligibility for the final examinations if it extends beyond the prescribed cut-off date.
Application Procedure and Training Extensions
Trainees must apply for leave through the NBEMS portal, with the necessary documentation. Requests for post-facto leave approval will not be entertained. Excess leave will lead to an extension of the training period, and the total leave cannot exceed one year during the entire training period. Any absence not in accordance with the rules may lead to disciplinary actions, including cancellation of candidature.
Compliance and Consequences
Strict adherence to the leave rules is essential for the successful completion of the programme. Failure to comply may result in the cancellation of candidature, and trainees exceeding the permissible leave period may forfeit eligibility to appear for the final exams.
