Ong Beng Seng to be charged on Friday in relation to Iswaran case


ONG Beng Seng, the property tycoon named in several charges to which former transport minister S Iswaran pleaded guilty, has a criminal mention scheduled on Friday (Oct 4) afternoon, the judiciary website shows.

He is expected to be slapped with one charge under Section 165 where he is accused of abetting a public servant in obtaining of gifts, and one charge of obstruction of justice.

According to the Integrated Case Management System (ICMS) for State Courts criminal cases, in the case file for the 78-year-old managing director of Hotel Properties Limited are two provisions of the Penal Code.

The Attorney-General’s Chambers had earlier said that it would make a decision on Ong “soon”, after Iswaran pleaded guilty on Sep 24 to four charges of accepting gifts from Ong and David Lum, the managing director of mainboard-listed construction company Lum Chang Holdings.

According to ICMS, Ong is out on agency bail of S$800,000.

On Thursday, 62-year-old Iswaran was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment on four charges of accepting gifts under Section 165 of the Penal Code, and one charge of obstructing justice; another 30 charges were taken into consideration by the judge for sentencing.
