On May 26, Manoj allegedly raped an elderly woman when she was on her way home. The accused offered her a lift on his bike and took her to a deserted place where he violated her. He also took her jewellery. A case was subsequently filed against him under IPC section 376 (rape) and police teams were searching for him.
After a tip-off on Thursday, police arrested him at Jagdishpur underpass on the Yamuna expressway. Seeing the cops, he fired at them and tried to flee. In retaliatory fire, he sustained injuries in his legs and was admitted to district hospital around 3am. Around 11am on Friday, Manoj fled from hospital premises while going to the toilet. Police laid a trap to arrest him. Manoj was alone on a bike and seeing the cops, he started firing and got killed in the ensuing “encounter”.
