In 2024, India has grappled with a series of high-profile paper leak scandals, from the widely publicized NEET UG controversy to issues with the UGC NET 2024 and the UP Police constable recruitment exam. Almost every month, reports have surfaced of compromised exams, sparking concerns over the integrity of competitive recruitment processes. Now, the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) has added to this list, canceling the Revenue Officer (RO) Grade 1 and Executive Officer (EO) Grade 4 recruitment examination due to allegations of paper leaks and mass cheating.
The Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) has canceled the 2022 recruitment exam for Revenue Officer (RO) Grade 1 and Executive Officer (EO) Grade 4 due to allegations of a paper leak and widespread cheating. Initially conducted in multiple shifts on May 14, 2023, the examination has now been rescheduled for March 23, 2025.
Around 1.9 lakh candidates appeared for the RPSC RO/EO examination, with 311 shortlisted for 111 available posts. According to reports, the exam was canceled after multiple instances of candidates allegedly using Bluetooth devices during the test.
Suspicion regarding a paper leak arose immediately following the exam, prompting the filing of multiple FIRs over alleged irregularities. “Around 1.96 lakh candidates participated in the examination, with 311 included in the eligibility check and document verification list,” RPSC Secretary Ramniwas Mehta told IANS. A case was initially registered on May 4, 2023, at the Naya Shahar Police Station, Bikaner, and a charge sheet was filed on August 6, confirming widespread cheating through electronic devices.
The RPSC requested an investigation from the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and Special Operations Group (SOG) on June 12, 2024. Further scrutiny of candidates’ documents took place from August 2 to August 8, culminating in an inquiry note. By August 14, ATS and SOG were formally asked to investigate, and by August 28, the additional director of ATS provided RPSC with findings that led to multiple arrests by SOG Jaipur on October 19.
The investigative report confirmed the paper leak and extensive use of Bluetooth devices by candidates, according to RPSC Secretary Mehta. “In light of these findings, the Commission has decided to cancel the exam and reschedule it,” he stated, as reported by IANS.
