Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, after meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in italy’s Cernobbio on Saturday, said that India and China have the potential to find a resolution to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
“China and India have a role to play in resolving the conflict,” said Meloni. She also cautioned against the notion of abandoning Ukraine to its fate as a means of resolving the conflict.
“The decision to support Kyiv is in line with Italy’s national interest and will never change,” she added.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that India, Brazil, and China can be potential intermediaries in resolving the conflict.
During a panel discussion at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok on Thursday, Putin mentioned that he was in contact with India, Brazil, and China regarding the Ukraine conflict. He expressed confidence in the leaders of these countries, stating, “First of all, it is Chinese People’s Republic, Brazil and India — I am in contact with my partners and I have no doubt that the leaders of these countries — and we have relations of trust and confidence with one another — will be really interested and provide a helping hand.”
During his trip to Kyiv last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in discussions with President Zelenskyy, highlighting the urgent need for Ukraine and Russia to engage in dialogue without further delay to bring an end to the ongoing conflict. Modi expressed India’s willingness to actively contribute to the restoration of peace in the region.
PM Modi reiterated India’s consistent stance in favor of peace since the outbreak of the conflict. He went a step further, expressing his personal readiness to play a role in facilitating a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
