The advancements will contribute to the Qatari city’s sustainability goals and improve the quality of life for some 450,000 residents and visitors
THE urban solutions business of ST Engineering has clinched a contract worth more than S$60 million to design, build and operate a smart city platform with citywide network connectivity for Lusail City in Qatar.
Awarded by real estate developer Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company’s subsidiary, Lusail Real Estate Development Company, the project is due to commence in the fourth quarter of 2024 and conclude by 2027.
It “marks a significant step in Lusail’s transformation into a fully integrated smart city that leverages advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and data-driven technologies”, said ST Engineering on Monday (Oct 14).
ST Engineering Urban Solutions’ proprietary Agil Smart City Operating System (OS) will be used to connect and integrate a range of smart city applications to enhance the efficiency and responsiveness of citywide operations and management.
Features of the OS to be deployed for Lusail include an integrated asset management platform to enable automated, round-the-clock monitoring of critical and infrastructure assets, as well as AI-enhanced workflow automation and citywide insights to boost efficiency and response time.
Resident and visitor-centric interactive smart applications, such as AI-enabled chatbots, will also be used to interpret citizens’ queries while enabling a real-time feedback system with data analytics and visualisation tools.
ST Engineering said such advancements will not only contribute to Lusail’s sustainability goals, but also improve the quality of life for some 450,000 residents and visitors.
Chew Men Leong, president of Urban Solutions at ST Engineering, said: “The Agil smart city OS will be the cornerstone of Lusail’s smart city transformation and enable new possibilities for sustainable urban living.”
Added Qatari Diar chief executive Ali Mohamed Al-Ali: “By leveraging AI technologies and interactive applications, we aim to offer superior smart city experiences that make the city more efficient and sustainable. We are confident that this partnership will help position Lusail as a model smart city both regionally and globally.”
