Stock market today: BSE Sensex rises 100 points; Nifty50 above 22,500 in special trading session – Times of India



Stock market today: BSE Sensex and Nifty50, the Indian equity benchmark indices, opened in green on Saturday as part of a special trading session. BSE Sensex rose over 100 points and Nifty50 was above 22,500. At 9:21 AM, BSE Sensex was trading at 74,042.22, up 125 points or 0.17% and Nifty50 was at 22,506.30, up 40 points or 0.18%.
The equity markets experienced a largely positive trading session on Friday, closing with gains.To prepare for disaster management, the exchanges are open on Saturday for a special trading session.
“Overall, we expect markets to witness a gradual recovery. However, concerns regarding consistent FII selling, India VIX still above 20 levels, ongoing general election polling and the outcome could keep volatility higher,” said Siddhartha Khemka, Head – Retail Research, Motilal Oswal Financial.
The short-term trend of Nifty is positive, with the next upside levels to watch being around 22700-22800 in the coming sessions, ET quoted Nagaraj Shetti, Senior Technical Research Analyst at HDFC Securities as saying. The immediate support level is at 22320.
In the United States, the Dow Jones industrial average closed above the 40,000 mark for the first time on Friday, with other major indexes also posting weekly gains. This was supported by data that aligned with expectations of interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve this year.
Oil prices settled higher on Friday, with Brent recording its first weekly gain in three weeks, as economic indicators from China and the United States bolstered hopes for higher demand. The dollar retreated against major currencies on Friday amid ongoing market speculation about the timing of Federal Reserve interest rate cuts, signs of cooling yet persistent inflation, and a softening U.S. economy.
Several stocks are in the F&O ban period today, including Vodafone Idea, Birla Soft, ZEE, Balrampur Chini Mills, GMR Infra, SAIL, Hindustan Copper, PEL, PNB, Granules, India Cements, Bandhan Bank, and AB Capital.
Foreign portfolio investors were net buyers at Rs 1,616 crore on Friday, while domestic institutional investors bought shares worth Rs 1,556 crore. The rupee appreciated 13 paise to close at 83.37 against the US dollar on Friday, tracking positive sentiment in domestic equity markets and fresh foreign fund inflows. The net short position of FIIs reduced from Rs 2.59 lakh crore on Thursday to Rs 2.48 lakh crore on Friday.
Several companies, including Jyoti CNC Automation, Trident, Data Patterns, Ujjivan SFB, and Anupam Rasayan, are set to announce their fourth-quarter earnings on Saturday.
