AGARTALA: Tripura Institution for Transformation (TIFT) and Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the eve of the 78th Independence Day for knowledge exchange, capacity building, research initiatives, and implementation of innovative strategies in Tripura.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of TIFT, and Secretary, Good Governance of Tripura Kiran Gitte, and Dean of IIM Calcutta Prof Rajeshbabu signed the MoU aiming to drive strategic initiatives focused on propelling industrialization and enhancing skill development in the state.
Hailing the move as a pivotal moment in Tripura’s progress journey in eight months of its existence, the Chief Minister holding the charge of Good Governance Dr Manik Saha said, “It’s a significant step towards development and the government’s unwavering commitment to fostering growth and prosperity.”
The IIM Calcutta delegation held detailed discussions with Chief Secretary Jitendra Kumar Sinha exploring collaborative opportunities and synergies, which includes a strategic partnership initiative aligned with the directives of NITI Aayog under its State Support Mission.
By leveraging the collective expertise and resources of both institutions, the partnership aims to drive impactful interventions in sectors crucial for the state’s development, ultimately paving the way for sustainable economic advancement and empowerment of the local workforce, Gitte underlined.
“Through joint efforts in skill development programs, research projects, and policy formulation, the strategic alliance is poised to catalyze positive change and usher in a new era of prosperity for Tripura by realizing long-term goals envisaged in the vision Viksit Bharat @ 2047,” Gitte pointed out.
To achieve the objectives, TIFT initiated interacting with national institutions of eminence like IIM, NIPER, NIT, and ISI Kolkata and a series of deliberations and discussions that were held with them on specific areas like industrialization, skill development, monitoring & evaluation frameworks, and identification of emerging technologies.
IIM Calcutta is the first institute, through its Center for Development & Environment Policy (CDEP) to formally tie up with TIFT to provide consultancy to TIFT for critical policy interventions that are being planned to bring about transformative changes in Tripura.
The IIMC shall also collaborate with TIFT for research programs and capacity-building initiatives that will be conceptualized jointly. It has been decided that the initial tenure of the engagement shall be for three years which may subsequently be increased with mutual consent, Gitte added.
