Mumbai: A conference organised over the last weekend by the Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI) in collaboration with the Mumbai University and the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Matunga, addressed various developments and challenges in the field of technology. It featured presentations on a wide range of cutting-edge research topics, including advancements in nuclear energy, green-energy solutions, and innovative methods for hydrogen production, transportation and storage.
The second international conference on Advances in Thermal Systems, Materials, and Design Engineering (ATSMDE 2024), organized by VJTI was inaugurated at a hotel in BKC Mumbai on December 27.
Presentations by the Defence Research and Development Organisation and the BARC also highlighted sustainable manufacturing practices, the latest developments in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) designs, and other breakthroughs. Research organizations such as NPCIL and ICT participated in fostering vibrant discussions and collaborations aimed at addressing current technological and environmental challenges.
The conference witnessed discussions on green energy, carbon footprint, hydrogen transportation and usage, smart grid, AI-based manufacturing systems, cyber security and IoT. ISRO’s Ahmedabad centre discussed hydrogen fuel, BARC presentation mentioned that the usage of hydrogen fuel will be increasing and therefore, figuring out the safety measures for its transportation is necessary. MU’s vice-chancellor Ravindra Kulkarni spoke about collaborations between leading institutes under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He also mentioned the need to use research to find solutions that are useful for society. The ceremony was attended by director, Directorate of Technical Education, VM Mohitkar, BK Mishra, former director CSIR & IIT-Goa and Raman Singh Monash University, Australia, Director VJTI, Sachin Kore and organizing secretary of the conference, NP Gulhane. The event was attended by about 90 delegates from all over the world including from BARC, DRDO, ISRO, NPCIL, IIT-Bombay, NITs, ICT among others. The conference aims to provide a platform to deliberate the future trajectory of VJTI with respect to research and development.
The gathering saw participants exchanging emerging research ideas on thermal domain, advanced materials, and design improvement in present systems. The exchange of innovative ideas is a key objective and the conference emphasizes the realization of tangible and measurable outcomes. The conference provided a research platform for young researchers and learning opportunities from ongoing research across the globe.
